Carriages & Wagons

The BMR is home to a superb fleet of passenger carrying coaches, and some demonstration goods trains that are found running mainly on special events and galas.

NARROW GAUGE COACHES
These are the mainstay of our passenger service fleet. We have three sets of these carriages, some ‘sit in’ and some ‘sit astride’. The third set (green) started service in 2025 and allow us to run plenty of trains on busy running days.

MARDYKE MK3 COACHES
We are lucky to have a fleet of 7 coaches built by Mardyke Miniature Railway up the road. Some collected from the closed Pentney Park Railway and Barleylands Miniature Railway. They are currently having final details installed such as vacuum braking and seating.

MAINTENANCE WORK TRAINS:
We have the longest end-to-end 7 1/4 railway in the country, which is a lot of track to maintain! We have a dedicated train with a ballast wagon, volunteer seating, equipment wagon, and plenty more. Our works train is not used on passenger days but is often pottering around when the railway is shut.

DEMONSTRATION GOODS TRAIN
We have acquired several wagons over the years from different railways, including the famous ‘Troublesome Trucks’ from the Brookside Miniature Railway in Cheshire. They have been lovingly restored and repainted and now form a demonstration goods train which you can see on special events and galas.

TIPPER TRAIN
These iconic tipper wagons can be found at railways across the country as they are available for purchase commercially. The grey (top) portion can tip and unload materials, making them useful for transporting materials as well as for demonstration trains.
