C55 Pinza

Mardyke Class 55 55007 ‘Pinza’

Pinza is named after the full sized version, D9007 ‘Pinza’. The full sized one being built by English Electric in June 1961, being withdrawn in December 1981. The loco was cut up shortly after at Doncaster Works.

Our 7 1/4 version however, was built by Marydke Miniature Locomotives in 1979. It has an interesting history, working at railways all over the country, including: a private railway in Hertfordshire, the Riverside Miniature Railway in Devon, and eventually the Great Cockrow Railway in 1990. In 1999 Cockrow rebuilt it with a Honda engine, and by 2000 she was carrying her current name ‘Pinza’ with the D9007 number, then changed to 55007.

In May 2026, she was purchased by a private member for use at Barnards. She is due for a new engine install and some general work before being availible for passenger service.
