Mardyke Double Railbus

The second Mardyke railbus was built as a double, with one car the driving with the engine and controls, and the other a dummy coupled up.

The unit was built by Mardyke for their Mardyke Valley Railway in 1978 with a 2hp Briggs & Stratton engine. In 1999 it was offered for sale but it did not move until 2016, when it came to Barnards.

The railbus has not been used in passenger service often, but made an appearance in our Mardyke Diesel Gala (2016).

It is currently out of service for a full overhaul, during this time it will be converted to battery electric and receive a full repaint – the livery decided but for now kept secret.
